External Internships

DAAD RISE Germany: RISE stands for Research Internships in Science and Engineering. RISE Germany offers undergraduate students from North American, British and Irish universities the opportunity to complete a summer research internship at top German universities and research institutions. RISE Germany is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office.

IPENG Internship Offerings

  • Engineering: International Internship-Sage Corps

    Sage Corps is an elite experiential Learning program that sends cohorts of top university students abroad (called Fellows) to work with foreign tech startups for 8-12 weeks. They seek to identify and cultivate the next generation of professional leaders who will learn company-building and network-building on a global scale. Sage Corps looks for hackers (software and hardware engineers/developers), Hustlers (Marketing, Sales/biz dev, analytics) and Designers (Graphic, UX/UI).

    Sage Corps immerses its Fellows in the host country's entrepreneurial and business ecosystem. Fellows attend investor pitches, demo days and round table discussions at venture capital funds, startup incubators, government ministries and multinational corporations.

  • Engineering: Summer in France-iCAM

    Participanats in this unique summer program will take classes and participate in "modules" for the first 6 weeks while finishing up with a 2 week internship. Students will take a French language & culture course in conjunction with modules like Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Frugal Innovation and a Wind Turbine project. Exploration and Culture on the weekends includes sailing, kayaking, a tour of Vannes and visits to near by cities.

  • Engineering: Summer in Hong Kong (CityU)

    Students who wish to study at City University of Hong Kong will find it to be in a unique and interesting location in the southern part of China. Apart from research experience, outside classroom workshops including cultural activities and industrial visits give participants a brief understanding of industrial establishments in Hong Kong as well as a taste of Chinese culture.

    Students will participate in a research internship which includes two work-shop based "courses" in science and engineering. In addition to research, students will participate in outside cultural activities and industrial visits to gain a brief understanding of industrial establishments in Hong Kong and a better understanding of Chinese culture.

  • Engineering: Summer in Japan-Kyushu [x-FU(s)ION]

    The Illinois renewable energy PIRE project is a 2 month paid undergraduate research internship at Kyushu University (KU) in Japan. The goal of the x-FU(s)ION international research internship is to increase students' awareness, exposure and motivation about renewable energy research and provide students with a unique global workforce experience. All award recipients are required to present the results of their project (as a poster presentation) at the PIRE annual meeting as well as contribute to the PIRE outreach program.

  • Engineering: Summer in Korea, South-Pohang

    POSTECH Summer Program (PSP) is a great opportunity for students who seek firsthand research experience. Individual research and Korean cultural program will allow students to explore the academic field of their interest and the unique Korean culture & language. Students are invited to various cultural activiites each week such as experiencing modern and traditional Korean Cultures and a visit to a summer fesitival.

    If you are interested in teaching English in a special program during the summer term, students may participate in the Campus English Program as a Group Leader in conjunction with the research program. Let your IPENG advior know if you are interested.
