Keri Powell Therapy offers individual counseling services for mental health and substance abuse treatment. Common reasons to seek therapy at Keri Powell Therapy are: personal growth, self-esteem, emotional distress, loss, trauma/abuse, identify problems, addictions, and to form coping skills. Multiple members of SHPE have benefited from this center. There are multiple locations in the area including Savoy and Urbana. This specific center can be covered by UIUC's student insurance plan (United Healthcare) as well as various other health insurance plans. More information can be found under the "Insurance & Fees" tab of the Menu section. Appointments can be made through phone at (217) 352-0200 or at one of their offices.
Students come to the Counseling Center for a wide variety of reasons. Many of the students who come into the Center are experiencing academic difficulties, including time management issues, concentration problems, lack of motivation, or questions about study skills. Some students are having trouble adjusting to college life or are having conflict with a roommate or their parents. Many of our clients have a specific concern related to depression, anxiety, alcohol or substance misuse, eating concerns, or a similar clinical issue.
The Mental Health unit at McKinley Health Center (McKinley) provides assessment and recommendations for subsequent treatment for a variety of emotional and behavioral difficulties. Short-term individual psychotherapy, up to a few sessions, is provided as indicated. McKinley's staff of mental health professionals include psychiatry, clinical psychologists & licensed clinical social workers. To schedule an initial appointment, please call (217) 333-2700. McKinley also provides same day emergency consultations to students with urgent mental health concerns between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m, Monday through Friday. These consultations are currently done over the phone.
