This event for our NSBE chapter occurs once each year during the fall semester. During a week in either late September or early October, our members gather together to go around the surrounding Champaign community to distribute resources from our colleges. Once we are finished with our route, we finish at a nearby park for a Community BBQ. Not only does this serve to engage the community and provide a future perspective for youth, but it also helps us network with community members. This year, our "walk" will be virtual, and advertisement will come out early. For more information, please email Kingsley Okeke at email@example.com.
Admitted high school seniors and seniors are invited to apply for High School Visitation, hosted by the NSBE chapter here at UIUC.
HSV is set to take place this fall on Friday, April 8 to Sunday, April 10. As a high school student, you'll be given a tour of campus and various laboratory buildings. You'll also get introduced to the Morrill Engineering Program, as well as fun challenges, classes, team projects, mentoring, and much more!
Our signature program prior years has been a more personal experience where high school students can shadow college students on their day-to-day and participate in team-oriented tasks in a more physical group setting. Our organization seeks to give students a small taste of what engineering at Illinois is like, and how NSBE can help shape their college experience.
Please contact Joshua Sekyere or Alina Ampeh at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
We are continuously looking to positively impact our community, and an example of this is our partnership with Franklin STEAM Academy for our NSBE Jr. program. This year, we aspire to make NSBE Jr. an official part of our chapter, thereby creating a pipeline from our university to the middle school. We aim to do this through consistent interaction and more focused science activities for the students who participate. NSBE Jr. takes place on Thursdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. For more information on how to get involved, please email David Sullivan at email@example.com.
