Community Service

SHPE|UIUC Community Service Team is a great way to not only get involved in SHPE but strive towards our goal of bettering the hispanic community. SHPE strives to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development. SHPE|UIUC Community Service accomplishes this through the variety of programs it hosts at all pre-college levels.

The Fundraising team is dedicated to generating funds within the University. We plan and execute all kinds of fundraisers from selling tamales on the quad to working a concession stand at ILLINI basketball home games. The funds generated from our sales go towards various SHPE|UIUC endeavors. Some fundraisers will have their proceeds donated to a charity and some will be kept to fund SHPE|UIUC. We use the funds to purchase equipment for the office or necessities for other teams. Other teams depend on corporate sponsors and our fundraising so they can run their programs or activites such as the chapter's HSV Program or to host this website. Also, our fundraising is sometimes used to subsidize SHPE|UIUC gear or conference travel.

The External team helps members develop the professional skills they need to obtain and excel at the internship, research, or full time position they want. It is in charge of building and maintaining relationships with top engineering companies, so our members can have the opportunity to interact with corporate representatives through various events. The team organizes many events throughout the year, such as corporate sponsored general body meetings, company socials, and professional workshops to improve resumes and interviewing skills. The team is responsible for obtaining sponsorship for our society from different corporations.

Technical Projects

SHPE's Technical Projects Team was founded with the purpose of exposing our Engineers to real-world problems and projects. Each year SHPE's Technical Projects Committee takes on on multiple projects ranging from robots for the Midwestern Robotics Design Competition (MRDC) to smaller including for the Engineering Open House (EOH) exhibits. The projects will be displayed in the Engineering Open House at the University of Illinois. During EOH, our projects will be displayed in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Building. The Technical Projects Team is where a lot of students get their first taste of hands-on engineering that will serve them well in their careers.

New Member Round Table

The Roundtable (RT) was created in the 1993-94 year in order to develop new SHPE members into leaders of the organization. The RT works by creating a microcosm of the chapter. It is composed of mainly freshman but is open to any new members. The committee then elects its own e-board. Throughout the school year, members of the RT, elected or not, think of and plan multiple events focused around SHPE's core values (Familia, Service, Education, and Resilience)

The MemberSHPE Team is in charge of tracking membership status records, coordinating SHPE|UIUC's internal mentor program (PartnerSHPE), and organizing social activities. Our efforts promote a strong sense of familia and build lasting memories for our organization's members.

Graduate Development

Our team's goal is to expose and prepare undergraduates for graduate study through professional and academic development workshops hosted throughout the year. We work with staff from the College of Engineering and the Graduate College to provide professional guidance on graduate development. This includes preparing and improving graduate program applications, optimizing experiences in research internships and careers, and sharpening communication skills as scientists. Our mission aligns with SHPE National's in that we are providing a platform to increase minority participation and success at the graduate academic level.
