Course Approval Process
Every Grainger Engineering student studying abroad must complete a Course Approval Summary Form (CASF) prior to departing campus for their study abroad program. There are very specific instructions for completing the CASF, and those instructions vary from college to college—make sure you are following the correct instructions for your college! LAS Students will follow LAS Rules. ABE Freshmen and Sophomores will follow Grainger Engineering course approval rules (below).
There are a large number of courses (2500+) that have been previously reviewed and approved for students who studied abroad during the summer, semester, or academic year. There is a database of previously approved study abroad courses. Keep in mind the courses in this database are not the only courses you can take at a particular institution, it is what previous students have gotten approved. While this is a good starting point, you should view the partner university course listings for additional courses you can take. For courses not found in the Study Abroad Courses Database, you must take the course description and get approval from the appropriate Study Abroad Course Advisor (299 Advisor/Chief Advisor). Every course taken abroad must be approved!
If a course on your foreign transcript has not been approved following the instructions for your college, this will delay the processing of your study abroad credit.
