What was your favorite class you took freshman year and why?
My favorite class freshman year was Eng 177, Spatial Visualization. My advisor recommended that I take this course to improve my spatial intelligence, or the ability to picture two-dimensional images as three-dimensional objects. This class was very fun because I love to draw and I saw definite improvement in my visual abilities.

What was your favorite class you took freshman year and why?
CEE 195. This course no longer exists, but during my freshman fall in 2019, it was the Civil Engineering orientation course. It introduced students to all of the subdisciplines of Civil and I enjoyed getting to learn a bit about all of my options within the major. It's since been revamped to what is known as CEE 190.

What was your favorite class you took freshman year and why?
I loved SE101 as this class taught me a lot about foundational knowledge I would use for classes and internships. In this class I learned how to work with a team very in depth, read construction drawing sets, and the basics about what a building is made of.

Joe Brown

5th Year, Computer Engineering
jbrown7@illinois.edu | LinkedIn | Section GEU

What was your favorite class you took freshman year and why?
ECE 120 Intro to Computing. When I picked computer engineering as my major I thought that by the end of my 4 years I would understand how a computer worked down to the transistor. Imagine my surprise when my introductory computer engineering class covered all of that in 1 semester. It opened my eyes to the shear breadth of what was out there for me to learn. I was both excited and terrified for what would come next.
