Career Fair and Elevator Pitch

After all of your hard work and preparation, be ready to shine when you interact with recruiters!

The Fall 2021 Engineering Virtual Career Fair

We are pleased to offer the students of the Grainger College of Engineering another opportunity to experience meaningful interactions with multiple employers. The format may be different but the impact has not changed. Read below for some helpful tips and resources as you prepare for the Virtual Career Fair!

What's new?

Our Fall 2021 Engineering Career Fair will be held virtually on Handshake which will allow students to correspond with multiple recruiters, provide flexibility with scheduling, and offer safety to all fair participants. Furthermore, due to the digital nature of the event, participants can attend from anywhere!

Live Chatting with Recruiters

Live chat rooms with recruiters replace the traditional company booths! Be ready to engage with employers through typing, voice chat, or even video!

Focused Days

A focused schedule helps reduce web traffic so you can find the right opportunity!

Wed., Sep. 8 - Full Time Virtual Career Fair
Wed., Sep. 15 - Internship Virtual Career Fair

Upload Résumés BEFORE the event

We strongly encourage students to upload their résumé and update their Handshake profiles BEFORE the event to maximize their chances of having their résumé reviewed by a recruiter!

Elevator Pitch

Your elevator pitch should describe who you are, what you have to offer, and what you would like to do -- in about 30 seconds. You should conclude with a question for the company representative, but remember to do your homework. Don’t ask a question that you could easily find the answer to by visiting their website, such as where their headquarters are located.

Your Background

Who are you?

• What is your major?

• What have you focused your studies on?

Your Skills + What You Are Looking For

What skills and experiences do you have to offer? Focus on those that are particularly relevant to the type of job you are looking for or the industry in which you are interested.

What type of position are you looking for? Full-time, internship, co-op, etc.

What type of work would you like to do?

Why Them?

Why are you interested in this specific company? Feel free to let them know what you do know about them or if you have talked with someone who works there.

What do you want to know about the company or the position?

Sample Elevator Pitch

Hi, my name is Brad Harrison and I am a junior in Mechanical Engineering. I had the opportunity to job shadow in the automotive industry this summer and recently joined the Society of Automotive Engineers where I plan to be a part of the Formula SAE team. I am most interested in joining Ford Motor Company in your Design & Assembly area of Manufacturing & Quality. What types of projects do you typically have your interns work on?
