ARISE Scholar Requirements

Admitted Students: By accepting your admission offer to The Grainger College of Engineering and the ARISE program, you agree to the following requirements.

Academic Requirements:

  • Only register in courses approved by ARISE Staff.
  • Earn a B- or better in pre-Calculus (MATH 115) & Calculus 1 (MATH 220); otherwise the course must be repeated the following semester.
  • Earn a C or better in General Chemistry (CHEM 101, 102, & 103); otherwise the course must be repeated the following semester.
  • Enroll and actively participate in the mentoring course (ENG 111).
  • Attend workshops, seminars, and events designed to support your academic success.
  • Make satisfactory progress towards an engineering degree every semester.

Community Requirements:

  • Reside in Pennsylvania Residence Hall (PAR) with an assigned ARISE roommate for your first year.
  • Participate fully in the summer bridge, orientation, and spring retreat.
  • Respond to communication from the ARISE Staff in a timely fashion.
  • Meet with ARISE staff for required, regular check-in meetings.
  • Treat all students and staff in the program with respect.
  • Complete all surveys as required for program evaluation.

General Requirements:

  • Limit part-time work to 10 hours per week while classes are in session.
  • Participate fully in the ARISE Summer Bridge, Orientation, and Spring Retreat.
  • Enroll as a full-time student at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in the Grainger College of Engineering.
  • Abide by the University of Illinois Student Code.

Failure to comply with these requirements will result in the loss of ARISE benefits (including but not limited to exclusive scholarship access and non-competitive access to majors in the Grainger College of Engineering).

Exceptions to requirements are extremely rare. ARISE Staff will address exception requests case-by-case.
