ARISE Scholar Requirements

Becoming an ARISE Scholar comes with many opportunities and benefits, for example ARISE scholars are admitted directly to the Grainger College of Engineering. Other benefits include mentorship, non-competitive major selection, and more. In order to benefit fully from all that the ARISE program has to offer, ARISE scholars must agree to following the program requirements.  Please read through the program requirements below.

ARISE Scholars:

  • Enroll as a full-time student at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign in the College of Engineering with designated coursework each semester.
  • ARISE students must earn a B­ or better grade in Pre-Calculus & Calculus 1, and a C or better in General Chemistry to move to the next course in the sequence; otherwise, the course must be repeated the following semester.
  • Enroll in and regularly attend/ participate in seminars designed to support student success.
  • Reside in the designated residence hall with ARISE for the first two years of the ARISE program.
  • Respond to communication from the ARISE Program Staff in a timely fashion (within 48 hours, unless under previously discussed and agreed upon circumstances).
  • Join actively participate in one student society supported by Engineering Council
  • Complete all surveys as required for program evaluation.
  • Treat all students in the cohort, as well as ARISE Scholars program staff and faculty with respect.
  • Work no more than 10 hours per week while classes are in session during the 2020-2021 school year (or discuss with the Program Coordinator).
  • Participate fully in the ARISE Early Move in and Orientation (August 16-20th) and ARISE Spring Retreat in January 2021 (Date TBD).
  • Participate fully in faculty and industry mentoring.
  • Meet with the Program Coordinator at least twice per semester.
  • Discuss travel schedules for athletics, academic/research conferences, and/or Marching Band, with the Program Coordinator within the first two weeks of each semester of the 2020-2021 school year (or other excused absences as soon as possible).
  • Abide by the University of Illinois Student Code.
