Busayo Adebayo, junior in Technical Systems Management and active NSBE member, flexes his creativity through the creation of his app, Subawau. Subawu is an EdTech platform designed to connect like-minded peers in study groups.
The idea for Subawau developed when Busayo found a need to have a more flexible and comfortable way to seek help in classes, like so many other students. Seeking a peer's help in a lecture of over 200 people is intimidating. Busayo was inspired by the opening community that NSBE|UIUC provides him and many other members, stating that he "feel[s] at home everytime [he] is around a NSBE buddy." Digital platforms, such as social media, allow users to quickly and easily connect with others without the hastle of in-person networking. With the support of his mentors, both within and outside of NSBE|UIUC, he took the initiative, built his app, and participated in the Cozad New Venture Challenge.
Subawu allows students to search for and meet with classmates fitting their criteria to form study groups. The app can also recommend study partners based on the information you provide on your specific learning style and class objectives. Busayo hopes that Subawu will enable students to create lasting relationships where everyone can learn from each other.
In the future, Busayo sees Subawu scaling across the globe, and becoming a staple for every student as Chegg, Piazza, and Compass have become. He envisons that "Subawu will become the bridge between the digital and physical, pushing the boundaries within the EdTech Industry, and opening up the road to success for students."
